BEWARE OF MALWARE

What is Malware?

Malware, short for “Malicious Software”, is used by cybercriminals to steal your confidential data without your knowledge for financial gain.

How can Malware spread?

  • Malware is usually distributed through malicious website, emails, SMS, communication apps such as WhatsApp, Zalo or social media platforms (i.e. Facebook, Instagram).
  • Malware can be hidden behind in other files, such as images, document files, or even in seemingly genuine links, especially when they do not lead to official website or app platforms such as the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.

How does Malware steal money?

Your online banking information such as username, password, and Smart OTP can be captured when your device is infected with malware. Then it will be used by the cybercriminals to transfer money out of your account.

Tips to protect yourself from Malware:

  • Beware of SMS/emails requesting personal information or instructions to click a link to reset password or access your account. Ignore it and go directly to PBVN e-banking website to log into your e-banking account.
  • Only purchase security software from a reputable company. Download mobile applications from legitimate sources like Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
  • Install dependable anti-virus software on your devices.
  • Perform regular check by running a scan using the security software you have installed on your device.
